ZIG MENTALITY are a young 3-piece DIY punk rock band from Ottawa, Canada, made up of brothers Jig (21, lead vocals and bass), Liam (22, lead guitar), and Quinn Dubé (19, backing vocals and drums). ZIG MENTALITY, previously known as dubé, are a fantastic, insanely talented and addictive band that I love.
THE SESH by ZIG MENTALITY is a 5-track EP released on May 1st, 2020 under Lava Records; the band had signed with them last November. Three of the songs - Pretty Girls On Bikes, Stoned Love, and Who Do You Work For had been previously released under dubé, but re-recorded and re-worked for this EP. Sesh On and If You Ever were unreleased demos, previously found on Soundcloud but since removed.
I love this EP - it blows my mind. I love these songs, I’m obsessed with their sound. It’s grungey, real punk. It’s wild and heavy. ZIG MENTALITY have so much passion and love for what they do, they pour it into their music and when you listen to it, a bit of that passion, that magic, gets transferred out and over into you, into your body, settling deep in your soul. It’s a wonderful feeling and you can’t get enough, I can’t get enough. I want to replay these songs over and over until they’re in my bloodstream. My favorite tracks off THE SESH are The Sesh and Pretty Girls On Bikes. The entire EP is worth listening to over & over, with headphones, as loud as you can handle.
THE SESH, released on May 1st, 2020, is just the start for this young punk band. I believe in them and their music very deeply, I believe they’re going to go far and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
ZIG MENTALITY. It’ll be in your best interest to remember that name.
