SINGLE REVIEW + INTERVIEW: "wayne" by des rocs
Wayne is wild, Wayne is explosive, Wayne is the blurring of neon lights exclaiming things such as “COFFEE,” “PIZZA,” “GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS,” “DEATH”, and “OPEN 24/7,” as you run through the city at midnight, cracked out on black coffee, blood filled with pure energy and a heart filled with fire. Wayne, as Des Rocs himself puts it, is here and nothing will ever be the same.
Wayne was released on May 15th, 2020. It’s a noisy song, a bit of blues in it, lotta rock ‘n roll, but overall it’s Des Rocs like you’ve never heard him before. I love this song and I’m dying to see it live, whenever that day finally comes. There’s a video experience to Wayne as well — you can view it on YouTube here — and it’s as wild as the song itself.
Des Rocs answered some questions about Wayne and quarantine life for me, and you can read his answers down below!
What is Wayne about and more importantly — who is Wayne?
i can't really answer the question. wayne is a symbol of many different things. i am wayne and so are you.
Wayne sounds different from your previous releases. Where did this new sound come from, what's it inspired by?
i'm constantly evolving. i always wanna push and take risks and redefine what rock n roll can be in the 21st century.
What have you been up to during quarantine?
making soooo many records it's insane. also just writing a ton, writing everything.
What do you want listeners to take away from Wayne?
that every second of every snippet of music means the world to me. that i would die for every lyric. that i wanna shake up the game forever.
With Wayne, you testify that "...nothing will ever be the same." Can you give us a hint of what's coming next with Des Rocs?
oh i think i've already hinted....the future is now.
