What a year, folks!: A Letter From The Editor (of sorts)

Hey, y'all!

I mean...I'm truly not even sure where to begin. This year has been unholy, to say the least, but its one mercy has been the incredible music that's been released and the unbelievable bands I've been introduced to.

I'm so grateful to still be alive. I'm so grateful to not have been personally affected by COVID. and I'm so grateful to have something to distract myself from all of it.

Buzzkill started on a slow day at the small-town library that I used to work part-time at. I'd finished my book and didn't have the attention span to start another one, and began playing around with the idea of starting my own music blog. I could never have imagined then that it would grow into what it has. I think the thing that shocks me the most is that there are people who are as passionate about it as I am, and I'm beyond grateful to everyone who is. I'm beyond grateful to the people who make Buzzkill as well as it does, because this certainly is not a one-woman operation

There's so much I want to do in the new year. I want Buzzkill to grow more, obviously - there'll be more features, more interviews, more exciting shit that my end-of-year brain can't come up with right now. We've all been working ridiculously hard and I have to admit I'm a bit burnt out. I don't want to be, so I've decided it's time to take a mini time out. That's why, for the next two weeks, Buzzkill will be going on a slight hiatus. We'll still be posting reviews and posting new playlists, but there'll be no FFO, playlist update, or release roundup until after the new year.

The fun new stuff starts with expanding the team. We've onboarded fifteen new contributors (can you believe that?!) who are all so talented and passionate that I can't help but be a little too excited. There'll be gig reviews in our future (thanks to the UK's initiative on socially-distanced shows!) as well as coverage on genres of music I'd never thought to pay attention to - and, honestly, diversifying Buzzkill's coverage is something I've been looking forward to since our conception.

I'm really, really excited to show you all what I've been working on, and to bring to fruition ideas I've had since 2019. I wish you all a happy holiday and I hope you're spending them with someone you love. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for giving Buzzkill a chance, and for listening to what we have to say. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Much love (and see you in the new year),

Emily
