SHOW RECAP: Demob Happy awe crowd during opening set for Death From Above 1979 in Nashville, TN

Although Demob Happy have toured the States plenty of times, the timing has just never been right for the Buzzkill team to catch them – until last Tuesday night at The Basement East in Nashville, Tennessee. Fresh off a stint in the emergency room (nothing serious, I’m totally fine), I asked a close friend to drop me off out front and pick me up straight after they left the stage, because there was no way I was going to miss them even one more time.

As the opening act for beloved rock duo Death From Above 1979, they had quite the crowd to warm up. But that’s not to say they aren’t titans of their genre in their own right – fifteen years as a band and three full-length albums under their belt, and it seems the three-piece are still thrilled to get up in front of a crowd every single night.

The forty-five minutes the band were on stage weren’t nearly long enough. I would have happily stood in that venue and watched them play for another forty-five. Their energy is electric, and their ability to ignite the crowd, most of whom confessed to only having gotten to the show early to get a good spot for the headliner, was phenomenal to witness.

Playing tunes old and new – one of which was released just a few weeks ago – the band never missed a breath or a beat, stopping only to thank the crowd and welcome us to the show in order to play as much music as they could for us.

Demob Happy will be out on the road until nearly the end of November, some of which are headlinign dates – if you have the opportunity to see them, I would advise you to take it. You won’t regret it! Thank you again to the band’s team for having me out.
